Who are the Berbers?

The Berber people are the indigenous inhabitants of North Africa. There is some confusion as to their origins. The Berbers have there own distinct languages and culture. Most Berbers are Muslims. Before Islam arrived in the 7th Century most Berbers were Christians. Augustine was a North african Berber.

Berber people are warm, generous and hard working but because of lack of education are very poor. Our vision is to change this cycle of poverty by providing Education for the local Children so that they can have hope. The adults too are showing interest in learning the basics of reading, writing and arithmetic.

We are trying to build a school in El Borj and to this end have already bought a piece of land 1,000 sq metres. We hope to build a spacious purpose built school with modern equipment including computers and a pleasant learning environment.

We have at the moment 44 children out of 140 being sponsored to attend the local school, which is overcrowded and lacking essential equipment. Please consider sponsoring a child. £10 per month will allow a child to attend school by providing the neccessary books, pens, and other equipment he/she will need.

The flat piece of land in the centre of the picture beyond the white car is the land we have purchased to build the school.
